Biography

  Judith Gendron is a PhD student in the Biotechnology and Biotherapy team. After obtaining a BSc in “Sciences & technology” from the University of Paris VI Pierre & Marie Curie, she completed a MRes in “Molecular and Cellular Biology & Therapeutic targets” from UPMC with the co-supervision from Museum National of Natural History. During her Master she worked at the Pasteur Institute on neurodegenerative disease modelling on generating iPSC from patient's fibroblasts by non-integrative episomal transfection & by differentiating them in neural cells. Then Judith joined Philippe Ravassard's team at the ICM in 2013 to study dynamical expression of long non-coding RNAs expressed (i) in developing serotoninergic neurons and (ii) in pancreatic beta cells during gestation. These preliminary studies led her to her PhD project detailed below.    

Research work

She obtained a PhD scholarship from the University Pierre & Marie Curie to work in Philippe Ravassard's team at the ICM. She also works at the European funding office (1/5 of the time). Judith is studying the transcriptome and non-coding elements of the genome from dopaminergic & serotoninergic neurons, focusing on open & active chromatin regions, as well as long non-coding RNA repertoire, using ATAC-sequencing and RNA-Sequencing. She also analyses the potential contribution of the non-coding elements identified in dopaminergic neurons to Parkinson’s disease. This work is carried out on dopaminergic & serotoninergic murine neurons and dopaminergic neurons differentiated from human iPSC. This project is funded by the Edmond J. Safra Foundation & the foundation for the medical research.
